Gregg Williams was born on July 15, 1958, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He attended Truman State University where he played football and graduated with a degree in secondary education.

Coaching Career

Williams began his coaching career in 1984 as a graduate assistant at the University of Houston. He then went on to coach at various colleges before making the jump to the NFL in 1990 as a quality control coach for the Houston Oilers.

In 1997, Williams was promoted to defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans where he gained recognition for his aggressive defensive schemes.
