He discovered his passion for acting during his teenage years, but his parents initially pushed him towards pursuing a career in medicine. Despite this, Joe followed his dreams and eventually attended UCLA, where he received a full scholarship. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in anthropology with an emphasis on African American studies.
