Early Life and Education

Kyle Whittingham was born on November 21, 1959, in San Luis Obispo, California. He grew up in a football-loving family, with his father Fred Whittingham Sr. being a successful college football coach. Kyle attended Brigham Young University (BYU), where he played linebacker for the BYU Cougars football team. He graduated from BYU in 1981 with a degree in educational psychology.

Coaching Career

After graduating from BYU, Whittingham began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater. He then moved on to coach at various colleges before landing a job as the defensive coordinator at the University of Utah in 1994.
