Early Life and Education

Lance Leipold was born on January 6, 1964, in Jefferson, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he played quarterback for the football team and earned a Bachelor's degree in physical education. Leipold later went on to earn a Master's degree in educational leadership from the same university.

Coaching Career

After graduating from UW-Whitewater, Lance Leipold began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater. He then went on to serve as an assistant coach at various schools before landing his first head coaching job at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2007. Under his leadership, the Warhawks won six NCAA Division III national championships (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014).

In 2015, Leipold made the jump to Division I football when he was hired as the head coach at the University at Buffalo. During his time with the Bulls, he led the team to their first bowl game victory in school history and earned Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2018.

In May 2021, Lance Leipold was named the head coach of the University of Kansas football team.
